Edible Austin magazine will celebrate the Austin culinary arts scene with its ninth annual Eat Drink Local Week, running Nov. 28-Dec. 5. The planned events include dinners, tastings and giveaways to highlight local growers, chefs, brewers and distillers, as well as a speaking engagement by reality television stars, the Beekman Boys.
Proceeds will benefit Mobile Loaves and Fishes, an Austin-based nonprofit providing meals for the homeless and working poor, and its Community First housing project. According to the organization’s website, it has served over 4 million meals since 1998.
Mobile Loaves and Fishes plans to build a 27-acre community with affordable housing for people who are disabled and chronically homeless. The village will include shared structures like a community garden and workshop. Donations from Eat Drink Local Week will be used to construct five outdoor kitchens at an estimated cost of $30,000.
The Beekman Boys, Josh Kilmer-Purcell and Brent Ridge, will speak at the Paramount Theatre on Sunday, Nov. 29, at 6 p.m. General admission tickets cost $30, and VIP tickets are $100.
The married couple are known for their reality television show, “The Fabulous Beekman Boys.” The series documented Kilmer-Purcell, an author, and Ridge, a physician, learning to farm in upstate New York while launching a lifestyle brand called Beekman 1802. They also appeared on the globetrotting competition show, “The Amazing Race,” claiming victory in 2012.
The VIP tickets include a pre-show reception with tastings from local restaurants Lenoir, Hoover’s Cooking, Barlata’s Tapas Bar and Cafe Josie. Tito’s Vodka will provide cocktails, while Barcelona Cellars will offer wine. Attendees will have an opportunity to meet the speakers.
A pop-up farmer’s market and book signing will follow the speaking engagement. Vendors from Texas Farmers Market, Beekman 1802 and Cowgirl Brands olive oil, among others, will have products for sale.
Monthly pop-up restaurant Bread and Circus Supper Club have planned a Harvest Dinner Dec. 3, at 6:30 p.m. The event will take place in Palm Door’s downtown loft space on Sabine, and tickets cost $55.
The Harvest Dinner will consist of a family-style meal made with local, seasonal ingredients. Prosciutto-wrapped quail breast and broccoli kofta will serve as appetizers. Among the options for the main course will be a pumpkin gnocchi topped by a vermouth cream sauce, parmesan cheese and cinnamon-spiced pepitas and wild boar medallions served with farro, spinach, fennel and a cranberry demi glace. Pumpkin panna cotta will be served for dessert.
See the Edible Austin website for more information and to purchase tickets for the events.
